Born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Derek Frey's passion for film was evident at a young age. Always feeling the need to entertain those around him, Derek's attention turned towards the camera in high school and college. While those around him partook in studies and socializing, Derek could be found wandering the halls at night with a video camera, creating his next off the wall production. A graduate of West Chester University in Pennsylvania, Derek began his professional career in the entertainment industry on the ABC sitcom The Faculty (1996)_. He then assisted film director Tim Burton on _Mars Attacks! (1996)_ (qv), _Sleepy Hollow (1999)_ (qv), _Planet of the Apes (2001)_ (qv) and _Big Fish (2003)_ (qv) . Derek served as Associate Producer on _Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)_ (qv), _Corpse Bride (2005)_ (qv) and _Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)_ (qv). In 2009 Derek worked as Editor on the extensive book The Art of Tim Burton. Most recently he worked as Associate Producer on _Alice in Wonderland (2010)_ (qv), currently in theaters. Anyone that knows Derek understands why he always has a camera in his hand. By looking at the collection of work he has compiled, it is clear to see that he has the skill, creativity, and drive to show the world of what he is capable. From distinct directorial works such as _The Day the Dolls Struck Back (2002) (V)_ (qv), _The Upper Hand (2001)_ (qv) and _Creep (2002)_ (qv), to the bizarrely creative Sketch and _Mr. Quiet (2004)_ (qv), Derek is determined to entertain audiences with his exciting and unique style of storytelling. Aside from films Derek has created a number of music videos for Big Island band Technical Difficulties including Briny Deep, Jimmy and Summer. Derek teamed up with Philadelphia based comedic troupe The Minor Prophets for the creation of _4th and 99 (2007)_ (qv) which was accepted into the 2007 Festival De Cannes. Derek and the Minor Prophets joined forced again in 2008 with the creation of _America's Game (2008)_ (qv). In 2010 he completed work on his most recent directorial outing, _The Curse of the Sacred Stone (2010)_ (qv), which was accepted into screening at the Festival De Cannes. Derek is currently working on The Ballad of Sandeep, scheduled for release in early 2011.
